A piece of good news came from Jiangning Development Zone on 11th December; by installing a small chip at home and downloading the related mobile phone application, the real-time PM2.5 concentration can now be monitored anywhere in a radius of up to 20 kilometers in the surrounding area.

The concept of smart home based on the Internet of Things (IOT) has been around for many years. Yet the pricey imported chips proved stumbling blocks for the promotion of this new concept. This problem has now been solved by a home-made new chip based on the smart home IOT system, which greatly reduces the cost, for which it has been awarded the title of 2012 Excellent IOT Solution by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
