Whether they be delivering your meal or yourself, it seems that Didi drivers and riders are always busy, taking orders one after another, serving you with decent politeness and asking for a good review. Some work late into the night, or drive customers hundreds of miles from one city to another. Can they really have a personal life?

The Nanjinger’s spotting of local Didi riders sat around a one of their delivery boxes playing cards together after finishing a long shift inspired this article and suggests they are not necessarily as busy as they may seem.

Recently, a driver’s rap contest was held in China’s central region. Six drivers’ raps stood out to make it to the final, for which Didi made a special video, portraying the joys and sorrows of their daily lives.

One Didi driver told internet news outlet, The Cover, that the music he plays in the car has remained unchanged for years, but after he talked to different passengers, he gradually adjusted his music taste to be more appealing.

Another finalist mentioned in his rap song that he was thanked by passengers after returning mobile phones he had picked up. He felt it was very heartwarming.

But it was Tang, a native of Chengdu, who in the end won top prize for his rap. His song “Didi Driver, Not Easy”, recorded in Chengdu dialect, included the names of some landmarks in his hometown and expressed his wish that passengers and drivers can understand and respect each other better.

Tang has only been with Didi for about 6 months and is currently an express driver. He plans to drive for 2 years to earn some money to help him start his own business. “I think it’s better to work harder than to work regularly”, Tang commented.
