This day, 14 August, in 1961, Kwame Nkrumah, President and Head of Government of the Republic of Ghana, was invited to pay an official visit to China. The Chinese government attached great importance to his visit and gave him a grand, warm and friendly reception, with Nkrumah as one of the pioneers of the African national liberation movement and one of the initiators of the Non-Aligned Movement.
