A new urban planning and design scheme in the neighboring areas of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders (hereinafter referred to as the memorial hall), located near Jiangdongmen of Nanjing city, has been formulated, in which a 330.44-hector land area with the memorial hall as its center will be re-developed, and some institutions and companies previously located in the area will be moved to other places, according to an announcement released by the Nanjing City Planning Bureau on Dec 8.

The land stretches to Hanzhongmen Avenue to the north and Jiqingmen Avenue to the south, and is located between Pujiang road-Yanshan road to the west and Beiwei road-Huxi street to the east.

According to the planning, the area will be classified into three circles with the memorial hall as their center, namely the central circle region will be classified as core sector, the middle circle region as buffering sector and the outer circle region as the coordinating sector, and a total of 10.56 hectors of land will be designated as the functional land of the memorial hall, an increase of 4.38 hectors from the current land area for the memorial hall.

The area with the functional sector of the memorial hall as its core will become the world-class cultural heritage and national public memorial place. In addition, the height of all the buildings in the area should not exceed the height of the memorial hall, namely 18 meters, according to the planning.
