The Asia-Pacific Economic Forum was recently held at Suzhou-based Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).

The forum was attended by experts and scholars from domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, such as Liverpool University, University of Sheffield, University of Singapore, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and University of Tsukuba.

The representatives present had in-depth discussions on the financial policies, theoretical modeling, trade and foreign capital, social welfare and other core issues that affect the economy in the Asia-Pacific region. The forum also viewed the economic issues in the Asia-Pacific region from the perspective of China.

Scholars from China and Britain discussed the issues concerning rural areas in China, and compared the similarities and differences between the two countries in terms of innovation ecosystem and industry-university-research cooperation.

Paulo Regis, member of the organizing committee of the forum and associate professor with International Business School of XJTLU, said that this forum, an effort for creating a research center that focuses on international economy, is intended to find solutions to challenges in the integration of the Asia-Pacific region and the development of Chinese economy.

“The participants have different background and come from different organizations and countries, which will help facilitate research and cooperation,” said Regis.
