More than 100 traffic accidents happened at the Second Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge from 08:00 to 20:00 on Apr 6, more than 10 times of that during ordinary time.
“A lot of focuses were put on the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge for traffic accidents in the past during rush hours when people returned to Nanjing after holidays like the Ching Ming Festival holiday from Apr 4 to 6. But the numbers of accidents happened in the Second Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge during the coming-back rush hours in the recent several holidays were more than that of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, becoming the worst section of traffic congestions in Nanjing,” said Chen Jun, a person in charge of the Nanjing Traffic Control Department.
“The situation was caused not only by the large number of vehicles, but also by another key factor, the traffic accidents. According to our statistics, more than 100 accidents happened in 12 hours during the coming-back rush hours, which was 10 times of that during ordinary time, namely 10-odd traffic accidents per day,” added Chen Jun.
