Nanjing Environmental Protection Bureau and the Traffic Management Office of Nanjing Public Security Bureau issued a joint announcement on Feb 25, requiring that both diesel vehicles with maximum total mass of less than 3,500 kilograms and gasoline vehicles with maximum total mass of more than 3,500 kilograms registered in Nanjing must meet National Emission Standard IV from April 1.

In order to prevent the merchants with a large number of stock vehicles only meeting National Emission Standard III from suffering a great loss, the related authority permits these merchants to abide by the new standard from May 31 as long as they register for a delay in Nanjing Motor Vehicle Exhaust Pollution Monitoring and Management Center before March 31.

Second-hand vehicles from other cities which don’t reach National Emission Standard IV can’t be registered in Nanjing.

Apart from Nanjing, 7 cities along the Yangtze River including Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Taizhou and Nantong have adopted National Emission Standard IV for gasoline.
