This day, 8 February, in 1979, the People’s Republic of China and the Portuguese Republic established formal diplomatic relations. China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Macau on 20 December, 1999, through settlement of historical issues left over by two sovereign countries in international relations through equal consultation, a model of the resolving of such issues.
