This day, 7 February, in 1957, the People’s Republic of China established formal diplomatic relations with Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), some 5 years in to the Rubber-Rice Pact between the two countries which saw them trade natural rubber for rice. As the first trade agreement signed by China with a non-communist country, the Pact was of great significance for breaking the Western embargo of China at that time.

1957年2月7日的这一天,中华人民共和国与锡兰(现在的斯里兰卡)建立了正式的外交关系,两国在《橡胶大米条约》中约5年,两国用天然橡胶换取大米。 作为中国与非共产主义国家签署的第一个贸易协定,该条约对于打破当时西方对中国的禁运具有重要意义。
