This day, 3 July in 1996, Chinese President Jiang Zemin paid a state visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, the first by a Chinese head of state since diplomatic relations were established. During his visit, Jiang said that developing good relations with neighbouring countries is a basic national policy and expressed his appreciation for Kyrgyzstan’s support for China’s position on opposing ethnic separatism.
