This day, 22 July, in 1944, the US Army Headquarters in China-Burma-India sent its first observation group to Yan’an. Reporting back its activities, the group was convinced that the CPC had won the broad support of the people. Prior, member of the group John S. Service had even said, “The Communists are in China to stay and China’s destiny is not Chiang’s but theirs”.
