This day, 2 December, in 2015, China and South Africa signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of South Africa on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, making South Africa the first country in Africa to join the Belt and Road Initiative.
