The 39th Queen Sirikit Cup Amateur Ladies International Golf Team Championship opened in East China’s Zhangjiagang city on May 9.

The top event in the Asia-Pacific region, the annual tournament was initiated in 1979, and held in China’s southern cities of Zhongshan and Jiangmen in 1992 and 2004.

This year’s event is a result of the joint effort of China’s General Administration of Sport, the China Golf Association, the Jiangsu provincial sports bureau and the Zhangjiagang municipal government.

From May 9 to 13, players from 13 countries and regions such as China, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand will compete.

The event is great news for golf enthusiasts. It’s also a good chance for Zhangjiagang to promote sport across the city and enhance sports exchanges at home and abroad.
