The 2016 Yangcheng Lake Colorful Rice Paddies Festival kicked off at the Lotus Island of Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou’s Xiangcheng District on June 25. On a large rice field of 80 mu (5.33 hectare), farmers created beautiful pieces of art with the collage of colorful rice paddies.
This year, rice seedlings in purple, yellow, white and green colors are newly cultivated on the island. They were planted in the shape of mermaids, crabs and monkeys.
Visitors can experience the rural life during the festival by taking part in different activities, such as growing rice seedlings and making rice dumplings.
The festival will last to October.
