2016 Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon kicked off at the Marathon Park in Yangzhou on April 24. 35,000 runners from over 42 countries and regions participated in the race.
African athletes swept men’s and women’s championships. Ethiopia’s Mosinet Geremew Bayih, defending champion and course record holder in the men’s race, triumphed from a five-man battle in 1:00:43.
People from different age groups all participated in the race. Senior citizens and babies in strollers can all be found in the race. It is reported that 34 gold label international athletes and nearly a hundred professional domestic athletes participated in the run.
Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon has been successfully held for ten consecutive years. The race won the titles of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold Label Race and Chinese Athletic Association (CAA) Gold Race for four consecutive years from 2012 to 2015.
