China (Jiangsu) International Conference on Scientific and Technological Exchange and Talent Cooperation kicked off in Hai’an, Jiangsu province on Sept 23.

At the conference, Dr. Ferid Murad, professor at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Signaling of George Washington University, a Nobel laureate in 1998, father of nitrogen monoxide and member of the United States National Academy of Sciences (NAS), delivered the keynote speech titled “Discovery of NO and Cyclic GMP Signal Path and Medicine Development and Application”.

In his speech, Dr. Ferid Murad especially mentioned the relation between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and NO and expressed his strong interests in TCM. At present, his team is screening, identifying and authenticating the NO active ingredients from nearly 1,000 TCMs in Shanghai, with the aim to integrate the extracted active ingredients with western technologies.
