29 world historical cities eye ‘green growth’ in Yangzhou

The 14th World Historical Cities Alliance Conference was held on Sept 2 in Yangzhou. Attendees are from 29 cities in 16 countries and regions including Japan, Austria, Australia, South Korea, Turkey, the US and Egypt.

The theme of the conference is “Historical Cities: Inheriting the Ancient Culture to Build Modern Civilizations.” After the opening ceremony, the first Mayors’ Roundtable was held in the theme of “Green Growth of Historical Cities”. Initiated by Kyoto, the World Historical Cities Alliance was established in 1987.

With 103 member cities, the World Historical Cities Alliance Conference is held every two years in one of its member cities alternatively. After it officially joined the Alliance in April 2009, Jiangsu Yangzhou successfully applied for hosting the 14th World Historical Cities Alliance Conference in 2014 in April 2012.
