An eye-catching event named “Nanjinglele in Space” which will see the torch of Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) reach the moon is set to be held on the morning of June 19, said YOG Organizing Committee on June 17. The torch relay will be broadcast live on the Internet.

The idea of space torch relay came from student in Nanjing No 3 Middle School.

With the help of state-of-the-art technology used in China’s lunar exploration program, an image of the YOG mascot Lele holding the torch will be transmitted to the robotic lander on Chang’e 3 lunar exploration mission, said Jiao Yong, director of the Department of Culture and Education of YOG Organizing Committee.

Jiao added that the scene that Lele runs on the moon will be realized through moon-earth transmission and it will last for about one hour. At the same time, aerospace experts will lecture on the principle and actions to promote the knowledge of aerospace. After finishing its journey in Europe and America, the YOG torch relay is now underway in Africa.
