Two new-style ferryboats recently constructed by Nanjing Ferryboat Company will be put into use in the upcoming Spring Festival.
The two shuttle boats each with 1,200 seats are docking at Zhongshan wharf. Once the boats are in service, passengers can enjoy beautiful sceneries in air-conditioning boats on a ten-minute river journey.
The new boats have a total length of 46 meters, 3.4 meters shorter than its predecessors. The width of 10.8 meters is 0.8 meter longer. They weigh 550 tons each. The first of the three floors is open to passengers who ride an electric bicycle or a bike, or carry goods. The second floor of the cabin provides seats for passengers without goods. On the top floor are built a steering room and a sightseeing deck, which will not be open to passengers due to safety concerns.
The first floor of the new boats provides seats on both sides of the cabin, which is different from its previous editions. Besides, courtesy seats are also offered.
Two electric doors are installed on both sides of the cabin. The glass curtain wall employs laminated glass, which will not fall even if it is broken. The glass is capable of bearing load. The two new ferries are numbered Zhongshan No 15 and No 16 respectively. Except them, Nanjing has 13 ferryboats from Zhongshan No 1 to No 13.
