Jiangsu will build 2,000 new in-home nursing service centers for the aged, and 50,000 beds will be added in old-age nursing homes, aiming to ensure the 26 percent of nursing beds, according to the Civil Affairs Work Conference in Jiangsu province on Jan 7.

Jiangsu also takes the lead in exploring new policies regarding subsidies and insurance for nursing services for the aged. Currently, there are more than 3,000 nursing homes in Jiangsu, 800 of which are privately-owned.

Jiangsu will introduce a series of policies to develop old-age nursing service industry this year. For instance, the construction land for old-age nursing facilities will be included into the general land use plan and the annual land use plan of towns throughout the province; nursing home license registration will be carried out and systems of access, exit and regulation will be established; overseas capital will be encouraged to enter old-age nursing service industry as well.
