The skyway part of the Nanjing Airport light rail featuring the “turquoise” train entered the experimental stage of contact line hot-running test on Dec 3.
The airport line meets the Nanjing Lukou International Airport in the south and Nanjing South Railway Station in the north, becoming one of the important auxiliary projects of Nanjing Youth Olympic Games 2014 with the total length of 35.8 kilometers and eight railway stations.
The amount of trains in use on the airport line is less than the Nanjing subway line. Every train is composed of six carriages with a total capacity of 1,300 people. Luggage shelves are installed inside the train. The quickest speed of the train is 100 kilometers per hour, which will shorten the ride from Nanjing South Station to the airport to 20 minutes. It is estimated that the construction of rail tracks and electricity system will be finished by around the next spring festival.
