“Harbor Star 1”, China’s first LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) filling station on water was put into trial operation in Baguazhou, Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on Sept 23, which is a milestone in the development of China’s LNG-powered vessel, signifying China’s water transport entering the brand new “era of natural gas”, said expert.

“Harbor Star 1” is co-designed by Yangtze River Ship Design Institute and Nanjing Fuel Gas Engineering Design Institute, and is invested and constructed by Jiangsu JOC Port Company Ltd., a company jointly established by JOC International Technical Engineering, Ltd. and Nanjing Towngas.

“Harbor Star 1” adopts the design of landing pontoon that is 100 meters long and 18 meters wide and equipped with two 250-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, as well as two low-temperature loading arms and other auxiliary facilities. The low-temperature loading arm is used to fill LNG at a minimal temperature of minus 162 C into the ship.

Compared to diesel, LNG is a fuel more efficient, clean, energy saving, and affordable, as well as safer and easier in refilling.
