This day, 3 December, 2002, the President of the Bureau International des Expositions, announced that Shanghai, China, would become the host city of the 2010 World Expo, the international exposition showcasing humankind’s achievements in social, economic, cultural and scientific fields, which was first held in 1851. Shanghai at that point also became the first city in a developing country to be chosen as host.
