This day, 25 November, in 1998, Beijing Mayor Jia Qinglin officially submitted an application to host the 2008 Olympic Games to Wu Shaozu, Chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee. The ultimate winning of that bid, despite the unsuccessful previous attempt to host the 2000 Olympics, underscored China’s commitment to the Olympic Movement.
