This day, 10 November, in 1987, French President François Mitterrand hosted a banquet to welcome Chinese President Li Xiannian, who was paying the first visit to France by a Chinese head of state. During ther time together, Li and Mitterrand exchanged views on issues of common concern, such as disarmament, the Iran-Iraq war, and the situation in Afghanistan and Cambodia.
