This day, 29 September, in 1954, Nikita Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, led a Soviet government delegation to Beijing pay a state visit and upon the invitation to participate in the celebrating of the fifth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It was the first visit to China by a Soviet leader.
