According to the preliminary monitoring and statistics, the 650 key commerce and trade enterprises in Jiangsu achieved a total turnover of 16.13 billion yuan (2.56 billion US dollars) during the 2013 Spring Festival vacation from Feb 9 to 15, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%, reporters learned from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce on Feb 15.
But this was a half-joy and half-sorrow Spring Festival for the catering enterprises. According to the briefing, organizations at various levels of Jiangsu province actively response to the call for “advocating thrift and saving, and opposing extravagance and wasting” by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. As a result, the consumption at high-grade restaurants on high-grade food, liquors, wines and beverages reduced. The turnover drop at most high-grade restaurants reached as high as 20% to 30%.
