This day, 16 September, in 1986, Deng Xiaoping met with Taisto Kalevi Sorsa, Prime Minister of Finland, as the first Finnish head of government to visit China since diplomatic relations were established. During their talk, Deng said, “Our opening up will inevitably bring about some influence by capitalism and feudalism. Therefore, we need emphasise the construction of a spiritual civilisation”.
