This day, 29 August, in 1842, the “Nanjing Treaty”, ceding Hong Kong to Britain, was signed on board HMS Cornwallis, at anchor in the Yangtze River in Nanjing, as the first so-called “unequal treaty” imposed upon the Chinese people by a colonial-western power in modern times.
1842年8月29日的这一天，将香港割让给英国的《南京条约》在停泊在南京长江的康沃利斯号上签署，这是近代西方殖民大国强加给中国人民的第一个所谓的“不平等条约”。
