This day, 25 September, in 1972, Japanese Prime Minister, Kakuei Tanaka, visited China, whereafter the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement was signed, announcing, “The abnormal state of affairs between the People’s Republic of China and Japan has ended. … The Japanese side deeply feels its responsibility for causing great damage to the Chinese people due to past wars and expresses a deep introspection”.
