A statement released by the Nanjing Urban Planning Department says that site selection has been approved for the stations of Nanjing Metro Line 9, Phase 1.

Running from north Nanjing to the city’s southwest, Line 9, Phase 1, shall be 19.702 km in length, with 16 stations, all of which shall be underground. Initial surveying for some of the stations is already underway.

On account that the first phase of the Line is relatively short, the construction period is about 4 years, a little less than the 5 years that it takes for most lines to be built.

The northern terminus for Phase 1 of Line 9 was originally slated to be the long-distance bus station on Huayuan Lu. That has now been changed to nearby Danxia Lu to allow for an intersection with Line 6 that is presently under construction.

Nanjing Metro Line 9 Stations

The complete list of stations, from north to south, is as follows.

Danxia Lu, Caohou Cun, Nanjing Railway Station, Zhongyang Men, Chenghe Cun, Daqiao Nan Lu, Xiaguan, Agricultural Trade Centre, Dinghuai Men Dajie, Longjiang, Guanzi Qiao, Hanzhong Men Dajie, Shuiximen Dajie, Qinghe Lu, Lvbo Yuan and Binjiang Gongyuan.

Of the 16 stations, fully 8 shall be intersections, specifically Danxia Lu (Line 6), Nanjing Railway Station (Lines 1 and 3), Chenghe Cun (Line 7), Xiaguan (Line 5), Longjiang (Line 4), Lvbo Yuan (Line 10), Guanzi Qiao (Line 13) and Binjiang Gong Yuan (Line 17). It should be noted that Lines 13 and 17 are not expected to be in operation until 2030. Of the rest, Lines 5, 6, and 7 are scheduled to open in 2021 and 2022.

According to the Nanjing Urban Rail Transit Phase 2 Construction Plan (2015-2020), Line 9 shall offer no less than 12 opportunities to transfer to other lines on Nanjing’s metro system.

In the southern extension of Phase 2, Line 9 is expected to be extended all the way to Banqiao in the far south west of Nanjing. This is great news for local residents, who at present can only access the rest of the system via Line S3.

It is hoped that Nanjing Metro Line 9, Phase 1, can open before the year end of 2023. Forecasts predict an initial daily flow of just over 250,000 passengers per day.
