The Sihong Ecological Wetland International Half-marathon kicked off in the Hongze Lake Wetland Park on Apr. 3. A special “contestant” named “Xu Dawei” from Jinhu county attracted the attention of everyone, because it is actually a 6-year-old Yorkshire dog which accompanied its owner to finish the 21-kilometer run.
“It is its fourth time to participate in a marathon, and I always follow its lead to finish the run,” said Yang Guoxiang, a 50-year-old player. She treated this dog like her child. Because her husband is surnamed Xu, the couple simply named the dog “Xu Dawei”.
Prior to the run, Yang Guoxiang also took “Xu Dawei” for the warm-up, and hung her runner plate on “Xu Dawei”. In the run, maybe “Xu Dawei” could not stand the heat, and it even ran to the river beside the track to take a swim.
Yang Guoxiang and “Xu Dawei” lapped the course with a total of three hours, because the dog went to swim several times.
