A highway construction site in Nanjing was sweltering at 11:00 on Aug 3. Our reporter at the scene took a thermometer on the newly paved asphalt road and within a few seconds, the temperature rose to 149 degrees.
Aug 3 marks the hottest day in Nanjing this summer, with the ground temperature reaching 50 degrees. Currently, a total of 758 workers are working in the maintenance and construction projects of asphalt roads in Nanjing as high temperature is a primetime paving asphalt roads. In order to maintain the smooth operation, workers take shift to work while the machines never stop. Some people even begin to work from three in the morning. At the construction site, the machine is so hot that it can cook an egg within seconds.
Our reporter learned from the Nanjing Highway Bureau that before the end of August, Nanjing will conduct nine projects of 96 kilometers of road maintenance.
