Nearly 20 clerks at the Yangzhou Wenchangge Branch of the Bank of Jiangsu were busy counting a large number of paper notes with a face value of one yuan (US$0.16) on Jan 12.
A bank clerk said the one-yuan notes, valued at 150,000 yuan (US$24,193) as estimated, was carried to the bank in a van, and the customer will bring another batch valued at 250,000 yuan (US$40,322) on Jan 13.
With a weight of 0.8 ton and as high as a 30-story building if all the notes are placed one above another, the notes are valued at 400,000 yuan (US$64,515), added the clerk.
