Nanjing Funeral Reform Office held the 32nd collective river burial of bone ashes on the morning of Nov 22. More than 400 residents gathered at the Zhongshan wharf from across the city, along with residents from Zhenjiang and Ma’anshan as well as surrounding cities like Huainan, Bengbu and Wuhu of Anhui province. 113 sets of bone ashes were sprayed over the appropriate areas of the Bagua islet of the Yangtze River.

It is introduced that all eight cemeteries administered by the Nanjing municipal system provide various forms of eco-burial. A subsidy of 1,000 yuan ($163) is granted to families that “set up no tombstone, leave no name and no tomb” in order to promote green burial. River burial is in the scope of subsidy.
