Laoshan area in Pukou district of Nanjing is hailed as the “paradise of egret”. As the migration season draws near, egrets flock to Nanjing and form a spectacular scene for bird lovers. The Egret, with its graceful manner and slender figure, is a symbol of elegance and is loved by many people.
Crowds of egrets can be seen in the northern slope of Laoshan Forest Park. According to local villagers, flocks of egrets, grey herons and night herons can be spotted among the jungles here, sometimes up to hundreds in number. There are four flocks of egrets around Laoshan area, and watchers may see the grand scene of nearly 3,000 egrets flying together.
Heron can be seen in Nanjing all the year round nowadays, while spring is the best season to view this bird, especially in the early morning and dusk. In downtown Nanjing, citizens can also spot egret in places near Qinhuai River and Jinchuan River.
