With the re-opening of the whole two-way double-lane trunk road in west Nanjing at the end of November, the road traffic in Nanjing will be improved. In addition, the trunk road in west Nanjing and Jiangdong road, except a few points such as Caochangmen tunnel and Longjiang tunnel, will be fully open to traffic by the end of December, and the road sections affected by the construction of subway Line 4 will also be put through by July of 2014, meaning that the rapid road network in west Nanjing will be completed soon.
Jiqingmen tunnel is the first tunnel open to traffic. To correspond with the adjacent Ming-Dynasty walls, the outer walls of the tunnel are also built with the dark-grey archaized city-wall bricks in the renovation, displaying a charm of old Nanjing. In addition to Jiqingmen tunnel, the main structure of Shuiximen tunnel on the trunk road of west Nanjing has also been completed at the end of September this year.
