The signing ceremony for the construction project of the public free-wireless hotspots in Wuxi was held in Wuxi Citizen Center on the morning of Oct 28, which indicates that Wuxi has begun to build a “city covered with free WIFI”.
It is planned that 40,000 public wireless hotspots will be built in the city within one and a half years so that all electronic terminals in Wuxi may have free access to internet.
Through a brand new approach, i.e. “government-guided, enterprise–dominated, and featuring social participation in market mechanism”, the private enterprises in Wuxi contribute 50 million yuan (about US$8.2 million), while the government opens its monopolized resources, such as traffic hubs and lines, to private capital.
