Autos to feed on national Grade-5 petrol

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) will switch to sell national Grade-5 petrol, with sulfur content being 80 percent lower than the current petrol in use, at its petrol stations in Shanghai and eight other cities along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province, namely Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Nantong and Taizhou, beginning from Oct 1 this year, according to the official micro-blog of the Sinopec on Aug 28.

Autos in Nanjing switched to national Grade-4 petrol with much lower contents of pollutants such as sulfur and magnesium since Apr 1 last year, followed by that in all the eight cities along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province at the end of last year.

It won’t take long for national Grade-5 petrol to enter the markets in the eight cities of Jiangsu. The Sinopec will switch to sell national Grade-5 petrol in Shanghai, eight cities along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province and 6 cities in Guangdong province in advance beginning from Oct 1. 

In addition, the national Grade-4 petrol standard will take effect throughout China from Jan 1, 2014 according to the unified requirement of the state.
