Know the joke, “What’s the happiest city’s in Anhui?” “Wuuu Huuu!”. Those contented citizens now have another reason to be cheerful, with the opening of a driverless monorail line that shall speed those smiling faces around on trains that were built here in Nanjing.

知道这个笑话:“安徽最幸福的城市是哪个?” “呜呜呜!”。这些心满意足的市民现在有了另一个高兴的理由,随着一条无人驾驶单轨铁路线的开通,这些微笑的面孔将在南京建造的火车上飞驰。

On 3 November, the nearby city of Wuhu in Anhui Province, that is just across the border from Nanjing, inaugurated its first straddle-beam monorail line that is part of the Wuhu Urban Rail Transit (WRT) system.

11 月 3 日,毗邻南京市的安徽省芜湖市开通了第一条跨座梁单轨列车线路,该线路是芜湖城市轨道交通 (WRT) 系统的一部分。

The line, that is 30·5 kilometres long, runs in a north-south direction, between Baoshun Lu and Baima Shan. There are 25 stations en route. 

该线路南北走向,起于宝顺路至白马山,全长30·5公里。沿途有25个车站。

Together with its trains, the line was built by CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems that is a joint venture between Bombardier Transportation and CRRC Nanjing Puzhen.

该线路及其列车由中车浦镇庞巴迪运输系统公司建造,该系统是庞巴迪运输公司与中车南京浦镇公司的合资企业。

The Nanjing plant has also built metro trains for city networks in many parts of China, and farther afield too, including Mumbai in India and Bangkok in Thailand.

Back in Wuhu, and to qualify the term “driverless”, the trains on the new Wuhu network are capable of fully automatic operation, also known as GoA4, in which trains can operate without human assistance at all times, while also being able to open and close doors, detect obstacles and react to emergencies.

回到芜湖,为了形容“无人驾驶”这个词,芜湖新网络上的列车能够全自动运行,也称为GoA4,其中列车可以在没有人工协助的情况下随时运行,同时还能够打开和关闭车门、检测障碍物并对紧急情况做出反应。

Before going into full operation last week, the trains got a thorough trial beginning in September, in which 10,000 happy passengers per week were invited to come and test the line for free.

Jianwei Zhang, President of Alstom China, said, “Wuhu’s new fully automated and driverless elevated monorail will be a game changer for residents, decreasing their commute time while also reducing congestion, pollution and carbon emissions in the city”, reports Railway Gazette.

据铁路公报报道,阿尔斯通中国区总裁张建伟表示:“芜湖新型全自动无人驾驶高架单轨列车将改变居民的游戏规则,减少他们的通勤时间,同时减少城市的拥堵、污染和碳排放。”

The new line, WRT Kine 1, is the first of that which is envisaged to one day be a nine-line network for the happy city. And next, Phase 1 of Line 2 that is expected to open by year end will give Wuhu residents one more reason to have a smile on their faces.

新线路 WRT Kine 1 是幸福城市的第一条线路,预计有朝一日将成为 9 条线路的网络。接下来,预计年底通车的二号线一期,将让芜湖居民多一个笑容满面的理由。
