Have you ever screenshot your Sukangma to make it easier next time it’s needed? Or perhaps for when the internet connection is not good, such as in areas with poor signal strength? Well, they got you, as our health code has a new weapon in the arsenal against COVID.

The Sukangma that is the health code for citizens in Jiangsu Province received its makeover last Friday, 13 August. That’s when the date and time became bigger and dynamic.

That is to say, the health code has become a kind of stopwatch, showing the time in hours, minutes and seconds, in real time.

The larger font size (almost three times larger) and ticking clock make it easy to see that the health code is genuine and not a version that has been screenshot.

And that’s important on account of reports of those who have, in the knowledge that their Sukangma is yellow or even red, borrowed the health code of another individual, again via a screenshot.

Thanks to the new feature, those requiring to check citizens’ health codes may now do so with ease, safe in the knowledge that the holders are as virus free as they claim to be.

And these days, there are a lot of people looking for that ticking clock. Health codes are now required to be shown in Nanjing before entering all but the smallest of corner shops; everywhere from large-scale malls to supermarkets to convenience stores.

The innovative solution to combating those who screenshot is in fact the second change to the Sukangma in recent weeks. Citizens are also now able to access the results of their recent NATs at the bottom of the health code screen. For those unable to read Chinese, a handy metrics icon shows the way.

So screenshotters beware. Their continued use in place of the real thing may in the future actually constitute a crime.

By way of a reminder, as this publication reported previously, “Those who deliberately conceal or fail to report in time that which results in the spread of the epidemic will be strictly investigated for legal responsibility in accordance with relevant laws and regulations”.
