This coming Friday sees the launch of a new English website for Nanjing, one with a dedicated focus to foster the Nanjing international startup community.

The official debut of the new site, www.startupnanjing.com, shall be announced at a Startup Grind Nanjing event being held this Friday, 8 March. In partnership with Google for Startups, this shall be the fifth Startup Grind Nanjing event, that will also offer some free drinks and beer, even a little pizza, to attendees.

Highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be, not the pizza, but the guest invited to speak at that which is being billed as a “fireside chat”. Li Chao is Head of Technology Innovation for appliances behemoth BSH China. Li will be using Friday’s event to introduce attendees to BSH’s brand new innovation program, Land Your Idea.

Li holds a Masters in optical electronics and has over 15 years experience in the electronics industry, covering hardware design, product & project management and tech innovation. The Land Your Idea program, aimed at finding innovations in the home appliance space, offers a chance for startups to pitch their ideas that focus on sensors, object recognition, innovative materials, hygiene technologies, sound deadening and user interface technologies.

The new startup community website is the brainchild of Warwick Donaldson, of Melbourne, Australia. Donaldson is a serial entrepreneur with a background in banking, venture capital, education, hospitality and fashion. Going on his third year in Nanjing, he is currently studying Chinese at Nanjing University.

He is partnered by the half Spanish, half Dutch, Oscar Prat van Thiel, of Brussels, Belgium, who, as well as being director of Startup Grind Nanjing, works at Nanjing Stuttgart Joint Exhibition Ltd., and Godber Olav Godbersen, from Kiel, Germany, partner of an established Nanjing architecture firm as well as founder of a design consultancy.
