Heze officially won the title of China’s peony capital in 2012, and that label has stuck because the city has made it mean something. The flowers are not just for show. They feed a seedling trade, a medicinal herb market and a wider seasonal economy that still matters.

The best known symbol is Caozhou Peony Garden, but the real point is bigger than one park. Heze has built a whole public identity around the flower, from festivals to nursery bases. In spring, the city does not merely bloom; it sells, ships and promotes.

Tracks, Wings And A Wider Horizon

Rail has changed the feel of the city. Heze East Railway Station, opened in 2021 on the Rizhao-Lanzhou high-speed line, gave the city a much faster exit route. Local reporting around the opening said Jinan was about an hour away by high-speed rail; that is a very different proposition from the old days.
