This day, 5 July, 2000, the heads of state of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan met in Dushanbe, and jointly signed the Dushanbe Declaration, reaffirming they would continue to further develop cooperation within the framework of the “Shanghai Five” (now the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) in their opposition to ethnic separatism, international terrorism and religious extremism.
