This day, 22 April, in 1958, construction of the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tianamen Square in Beijing was completed. Having taken almost 6 years to build, the 37.94-metre tall obelisk weighs over 10,000 tonnes and is comprised of approximately 17,000 pieces of marble and granite. Engraved in gold foil upon it in the hand of Mao Zedong are the words “The people’s heroes will live forever”.
1958年4月22日的这一天,北京天安门广场的人民英雄纪念碑竣工。 这座37.94米高的方尖碑花了近6年时间建造,重达10,000多吨,由大约17,000块大理石和花岗岩组成。 毛泽东手中的金箔上刻着“人民的英雄将永生”的字样。
