This day, 28 February, in 1972, the “Sino-US Joint Communique” was published in Shanghai. Therein it was stated that there are essential differences in the social systems and foreign policies of China and the United States, while for its part, the US side affirmed its formal acknowledgement that “all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China”.
