This day, 1 January, in 1979, the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America established diplomatic relations, after the U.S. government accepted the three principles for the establishing thereof proposed by China, namely the severing of diplomatic relations, the withdrawal of troops and the abrogating of treaties as to the issue of Taiwan.
1979年1月1日的这一天，中华人民共和国和美利坚合众国在接受中国提出的建立外交关系的三项原则后，即断绝外交关系、撤军和废除关于台湾问题的条约，建立了外交关系。
