Cheng Wei is 29 years old and after graduation, he worked as a translator in Shanghai. At the end of 2014, he quitted his joband embarked a biking tour in Yunnan Province. Cheng Wei said that his was influenced by Kerouac’s “On the Road” and he longs forromantic experience of driving across the US continent.But he did not want to do what others have done before and so he chose to ride a bike.
In December 2014, Cheng Wei and two friends hit the road. But when they reached Yunnan, the two friends suddenly quit riding, leaving him alone. Cheng Wei introduced that he rode through Laos,Thailand, Myanmar, India and Iran. Then he rode along the Black Sea and passed through Turkey and all the way to the African continent. Later he followed the East African coastline and crossedTanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
Apart from the occasional hotel stays, Cheng spent almost every night in his tent. He slept in gas stations, parks and churches. His equipment is also very simple, justa tent and a few pieces of clothing. On June 16, 2015, Cheng Wei got bitten by four giant dogs on the road away from a Georgian town.A gray long-haired dog bit Cheng Wei’s left leg and caused a serious bleeding. “I accelerated to get away from the dogs and I treated the wounds. Then, I rode more than 70 km to a nearby hospital for rabies vaccine.” On the morning of September 2, 2015, Cheng Wei’s stuff was stolen in a hotel in the border town between Tanzania and Kenya. Cheng Wei still insisted on riding and begged along the way for a few days.
Cheng Wei spent 11 months riding 20,000 km in more than ten countries.
