The First Jiangsu Development Summit will open in Nanjing on May 20.

On Saturday, “Xiao Liusu”, literally “small tassel”, was unveiled at a volunteer service session as the nickname for the upcoming event’s volunteers, as well as their clothes.

Liusu, or a tassel, is commonly used to decorate gorgeous clothes and accessories to make them look even more elegant and beautiful. The tassel has a deep-rooted cultural connotation in China, and the new nickname for the volunteers corresponds to the summit’s logo, which aims to bring together all Jiangsu-born talented people to work out a prosperous blueprint for Jiangsu’s future development.

“Liu” means flow in Chinese and has the same pronunciation as the Chinese character for “stay”, so the nickname also expresses the hope that talented people will flow back to Jiangsu, stay here and work together for a better future.

The design of the volunteers’ clothes was inspired by the summit’s logo. Developed from the Chinese character “Ren” (people) and brocade elements in the logo, the dynamic graphics and colors help present a volunteer image full of vitality.
