A drama named Mr. Godot’s Lonely Club made its debut at the theater Ju He Meng Xiang (or Let’s Play) in Nanjing, Mar. 15, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

It is adapted from Waiting for Godot, an absurdist play by Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett, and staged by five young actors who graduated from Nanjing Normal University. The drama tells about some absurd stories in their pursuit of fame, fortune and romance.

In the hope of bringing more innovations and freshness to the audience, these young pioneers integrate multiple art performances, such as cross talk, talk show, hip-hop, rock n’roll, and even magic into the play.

Likewise, the theatre Ju He Meng Xiang also presents a brand new appearance. Located at Xinjiekou Department Store in downtown Nanjing, this theatre occupies only 200 square metres. Inside the theatre, the distance between the stage and the last row of seats is only 8 metres.

“Being innovative in itself, the theatre can function as an incubator for local artists, and will hopefully strike a chord among the audience,” said the theatre investor Wu Weiwei.
